I got to know Matt better working with him at WeatherBank while in college.

Despite having cystic fibrosis, he wanted to do as much as possible.  I think he had a great story about trying to help with a project by using a chainsaw that weighed as much as he did.  People warned him that the chainsaw could kickback on him. He ignored the warnings because he didn't understand them, plus he wanted to prove how tough he was.  On the first log the chainsaw kicked back and flipped over on him.  It sliced his shirt open, but just grazed his chest.  He  thought the whole thing was hilarious.

He was a fun guy to work with.  He also wrote and published a couple of short Childrens books.

Matt passed away on Monday, May 22, 2000.  We grew up together just a few blocks away from each other and were life-long friends.  The greatest thing was just being able to be with him for a few minutes the Friday before he passed away.  Matt hardly EVER talked about his cystic fibrosis.  He was extremely private.  But wrote the best essay in college about it!  NOT easy.  Matt was a gifted writer, and loved to laugh and have a good time!  Following is a link to Matt's obituary:  http://www.deseretnews.com/article/762145/Obituary-Matthew-Alexander-Curtis.html?pg=all
