Comments:

I graduated from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. in '93, with a B.A. in Elementary Education, and in '94, with an M.A. in Deaf Education. I have been teaching deaf and hard-of-hearing students in various cities, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, SLC, Guam, Phoenix, Hawaii, Seattle, and Providence. Currently, I reside in New York City, where I am pursuing my doctorate in the Anthropology and Education program at Teachers College, Columbia University.

What is the coolest/most amazing thing you are aware a fellow classmate has done?

I have no idea yet. I don't keep track of many classmates.

What is the furthest place from Salt Lake you have lived?

Guam

What was your worst grade in high school, the class, and the person whose fault it was (obviously it was not your fault)?

I received an F in an English class due to the teacher's lack of understanding about my deafness. Unfortunately, the teacher did not make any effort to communicate with me effectively. She constantly turned away from me while speaking, and her lips were too sssmmmaaallllll for me to read. I don't think it was fair for me to be given a failing grade due to a communication barrier caused by my deafness.
However, I have moved on from that experience and I am now more comfortable communicating in American Sign Language, which is my natural language.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Mr. Perry (Graphic Arts) He was a kind and understanding teacher. He allowed me to choose what I wanted to do with my art designs, which made me feel empowered and motivated. He has been a great role model for me, and I've learned a lot from him. I have one embarrassing moment that I would rather share in person, but overall, my experience with him has been positive.

Who was your least favorite teacher and why?

My least favorite teacher was Mr. Weight. I always disliked Physical Education (PE) and still do. I faced challenges with my physical coordination due to being born deaf and the disease that affected my nerves while my mother was pregnant with me. It was difficult for me to coordinate my hands and feet to perform the exercises in PE.

I began my studies at Teachers College, Columbia University in the fall of 2019. Unfortunately, the stupid COVID-19 pandemic struck shortly after, disrupting my education.
My mother was there to help me move from Providence, RI to NYC.
